The tallest and perhaps most luxurious hotel in the world is located in an unparalleled setting on an artificial island only about 280 meters from the mainland. With its world-famous and unique architecture, built in the shape of a sail, the hotel towers 321 meters over the Arabian Gulf.
Construction started in 1994. The preliminary architecture work was done by Atkins Middle East. The builder, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, today the Vice President of Dubai and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, financed the billion-dollar project. Opening ceremonies were celebrated on December 1, 1999.

In this project, TROX provided the safety engineering solutions for the area of fire safety. The hotel has 202 rooms, all exclusively suites between 169 and 780 square meters in size. Even the smallest suites (169 m²) contain two floors.
To guarantee the hotel’s guests and visitors a maximum level of safety, they installed TROX components from the fire dampers, smoke detectors and control units product groups. The products supplied also included TROX air diffusers, available in the widest variety of models. In this project, TROX supplied individual customer diffusers in an "Arabesque“ style.
